Have you ever listened to a band or artist and thought to yourself.. “I wish there was a blog I could read that gives suggestions of other bands I can listen to with a similar vibe to this”. Well, look no further.
I have aptly named this series: ‘So, You Like…’, which will be regularly posted with my suggestions to broaden your playlists.
To kick us off, the increasingly popular Australian indie-pop duo, Royel Otis.

Originating from Sydney, Australia, this duo has been releasing music for the last few years, beginning with their EP ‘Campus‘ which dropped in 2022. Since then, they have made two other albums ‘Sofa Kings‘ and ‘PRATTS & PAIN‘, releasing in 2023 and 2024 respectively. Their music is sort of dream-pop meets ‘coming of age’ movie soundtrack meets 80s alternative. Picture the love child of The Cure and The 1975 and you would have something along the lines of Royel Otis.
This band seems to have blown up recently on TikTok, with their cover of The Cranberries’ 1993 hit, Linger, gaining hundreds of thousands of views. This has brought floods of new fans to their catalogue of music, which leads me to ask the question…so, you like Royel Otis?
Here are my recommended artists for fans of Royel Otis…

- DAYGLOW
Also releasing music in the alternative-indie genre, Dayglow has a vibe that fans of Royel Otis will welcome. Some standout tracks to get you started are ‘Can I Call You Tonight?‘, ‘Close To You‘, ‘Deep End‘ and ‘Hotrod‘.
2. FAR CASPIAN
This band has a much more melancholy chilled-out cinematic type of style, which pair nicely with the movie-sountrack style of Royel Otis. Some recommended tracks are ‘Pretend‘, ‘Brother‘, ‘Sun Room‘, and ‘These Times‘.

3. PEACH PIT
Canadian band Peach Pit offers a mix of upbeat and sometimes pensive indie-rock / alternative music. Some standout tracks are ‘Alrighty Aphrodite‘, ‘Not Me‘, ‘Peach Pit‘, ‘Figure 8‘, and ‘Hot Knifer‘, although the album ‘Being So Normal‘ is a no-skips album for me.
4. BEACH FOSSILS
With their soft vocals and melodic guitar-chords, American indie-alternative band Beach Fossils offers a familiar feeling to fans of Royel Otis. Some recommended songs are ‘May 1st‘, ‘Don’t Fade Away‘, ‘This Year‘, ‘Dare Me‘ and of course, ‘Down The Line‘.

5. PALACE
My 5th and final recommendation are English folk-ish indie band, Palace. I feel that fans of Royel Otis will appreciate the instrumentation and general vibe of this band, with some go-to tracks being ‘Running Wild‘, ‘So Long Forever‘, ‘Berlin‘, ‘No Other‘ and ‘Fade‘.
Hopefully, reading this has opened up several rabbit-holes of new music and new playlists to start exploring. It could have also left you asking the question, “I wish I could find more music like this”. If this is the case, then I have some more blogs to write…
Thank you for reading.
